If you come to Learn..LEARN....Don't make games...That's simply NOT learning. Yes best way to learn is to jump in and try stuff..

That's what LAMP and XAMP is for. You have NO right to offer a game, that depends on donations from people to the public if you are "Learning" like you said.

You are not a game owner, your a person learning. Simple as that. If that is going to be your excuse go learn. Ask questions. Oh, and posting that guys IP will get YOU in trouble, as that breaks a law. So you know, that.

Not "bitching" at you, I'm just like everyone else sick of hearing about the 500 games every month that open and close.

You are KILLING the business of games. Your getting into everyone elses cuase your drawing people to crappy games, they see them think that all text based browser games will be like that., and we lose out.

I honestly don't expect most to understand cuase most on here are under 15 years old. And you dn't want my opinion on that...

I understand what your saying, but for me I am one of these people that like to jump straight in.

I like asking questions, If I have a problem and some one helps me I like to look at what I did wrong and learn from it.

If I buy my mods and install them and have problems It makes sense to ask for help,

It's quicker than spending hours keep looking over the codes.

I learn so much quicker if I get pointers, a push in the right direction.

I know that I can be a right dumb ass at times lol

But hell I try, I spend so much time reading codes and learning Php I freaking dream about codes lol.

I can only speak for myself when I say this stuff, and I can see by my 6- that not every one likes me asking questions and having an opinion but that's just me.

I completely have a different view to you, like strats, i'm still learning. Maybe games aren't the best way to learn but over the past few months that i started coding i can do alot of things.

Alabama, I nearly always agree with you but my opinion of this is some-what different to yours. You say the 'exploiter' is only half in the wrong for doing it, as the game owners resonsibility is to secure the game, but let take this for example;

Iv just opened my window so my cat can come and go as she pleases and I decide to go upstairs/out/toilet. Someone comes and climbs in and knicks my Tv - I ring police and they catch the 'crook'. So its not the criminals fault he came onto my property (trespass) and steals my Tv, because I 'allowed' him to do it by opening my window?

While my window may be open, Im allowed to as its my property. I dont expect people to break in but occasionally it does happen, but when/if it does I cant be held resonsible because at the end of the day, Im allowed to open my own windows......leave my car unlocked......have plants outside......If you use your logic, Id be living in a concrete box with no openings, because to have something means Im being 'silly' and frankly allowing people to take it.

Thats a real world example, even though the tinternet is different, not always. The 'exploiter' has acted maliciously to destroy/ruin/change/annoy a game and its owner with every intention to do so as its unlikly they innocently clicked a link and all hell was let loose.

 

Morale of this long drawn out story, secure your game and lock your houses!

The bottom line that you should learn from this, don't rely on Dabomstew's code.

He's developed that, what, 5-6 years ago (when I first visited CE), and it's completely out of date. Little coded modifications does not secure of other parts of the engine, and from what I've recently rechecked, it doesn't have any elements from PHP 4.x+ included (and we're going on PHP 6 soon!) so it's going to have bugs as it hasn't been updated.

As PHP gets more weaker, they release new versions. Otherwise they'd just had made one stable version and rely on all these 'libraries' to do the job. MCcodes V2 is just a clone from it's predecessor, except with more customization and fancy code lines to make you think you've got more value for your money. If you'd rather buy MCcodes than vBulletin, then your mentality is somehow corrupt (as vBulletin has everything MCcodes doesn't - value). People respect vBulletin for it's regular updates for the script, which just makes people "want" to pay them because they want to support them.

It's just plain stupid how people are still playing with this code. I'm sure in this time you'd had learnt that coding your own engine is definately the right solution every time. If you don't get it perfect first time, don't sweat it - just take bits out of other codes and see how you go. That's how I learnt.

I brought my codes about 2 years ago now.

I had no idea what to do no idea about how buggy they were.

I only saw what they could on games.

I understand more now and can see I have to learn alot more, to protect my game myself.

i personly think allot of people on ce have the wrong idea most new members who are learning wont ask questions because of the abuse they get back

to all u exsperienced coders out there who are constantly putting people and there mods down ur on a forum for learning and helping so HELP if ur not helping wats the point of being here

to the thing i saw in this post that made me post this about people learning having games

i dont do well learning from books so i started learning on a test game and a few friends joined up to see what i was doing even though i didnt have crons as it was on a free host

now i own a game im sure its quite crap compared to allot of urs but im still new and LEARNING and my members know that and are happy

the main thing thats giving these games a bad name is the amount of gangster/ pimp games that open up every day not just new coders learning

My game is a bit plain right now, Lots to work on but I have a handful of people playing. They all understand that I am learning and working pretty much all of the time on making it better and improving.

Without the support from people In here (The nice ones) I would never be able to do this, I would not be able to learn from my mistakes.

The problem is new people come in here all the time and ask the same question over and over and over and over again...Maybe its the same people asking the same question or maybe its not...All u have to do is USE THE DAM SEARCH box....Chances are that somebody else has asked your question already...If nobody has asked your question then make a post for a reply

Yeah, you have no idea cuase you new, and new is NOT an excuse this site is just like all others. It has a nice old search feature. So, that is why they are bashed for asking and if theyh give up on coding Good...cuase they don't need to be donig it and don't really want to learn it if they give up that easy.

Now, People saying you can not learn from internet tutorials, and reading books..

You have to admin, this is not flipping burgers, nor changing oil. So if your not smart enough to learn that way, well, your probarly not smart enough to do it at all.
